It's construction is made of spring steel, the seating is covered with burgundy red leather. Poul Kjærholm was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of noteworthy chair prototypes. In 1955 Poul Kjærholm initiated his collaboration with manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen, which lasted until Poul Kjærholm's death in 1980. In 1982, Fritz Hansen took over the production and sales of "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967, designs, which are logical to the minute detail with an aura of exclusivity. Poul Kjaerholm began his legacy as a humble cabinetmaker’s apprentice. He has studied at the Danish School or Arts in Copenhagen in 1952. Later on, his distinctive design was evident in his PKO minimalist plywood series. His art was vetted as playfully irrational. The Holscher Chair acquired its name because of the steel tube construction made by the blacksmith Svend Holscher, the father of professor Knud Holscher. Svend Holscher was a blacksmith in the small town of Rødby, his son Knud was a good friend of Poul Kjærholm.
Poul Kjærholm became a professor at the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen in 1976. Poul Kjærholm designed some of the most beautiful and most striking chairs of the modern period of Danish design. At the age of 15 he was apprenticed to a cabinet maker in his home town of Hjørring in Jutland but moved to Copenhagen in 1948 where he continued his training at the Kunsthåndværkerskolen - the School of Arts and Crafts - that was then based at Kunstindustrimuseet - now
